PHILLIP BADENHORST (b. 1957)
BIOGRAPHY
Philip Badenhorst is known for his rich impasto technique and colourful, expressionistic oil paintings. His works often feature human figures, surrounded by flowers, foliage, bouquets, dark forests and water, establishing ‘a disarming sense of vulnerability and an almost uneasy sense of voyeurism’. Although the artist’s work is not devoid of social realities, his leitmotifs are more centrally concerned with his inner world, fears and personal history.
Badenhorst’s career as a painter includes almost 40 solo exhibitions. He has participated in nearly 100 group exhibitions in South Africa and abroad since 1981.
