BIOGRAPHY

Elliot was born in Queenstown in the Eastern Cape and started painting and exhibiting on group exhibitions from an early age. He completed high school at St Andrew’s College, Grahamstown and went on graduate with BA (Law) and LLB degrees from Stellenbosch University before practising as an attorney and conveyancer for 10 years with the family firm, Elliott Brothers, in Queenstown. He and his wife, Janny, became active in art circles, with Janny running Penny Lane Art Studio in Queenstown for many years.

In the early 1980s, Elliot sold his 100-year old family practice and company, and turned to professional painting. He moved with his family to Knysna along the Garden Route in the Western Cape. There they established their home and art studio on the shores of Bollard Bay Beach, Leisure Island. They also opened the Dale Elliott Exclusive Art Gallery in the leading mall in downtown Knysna, Woodmill Lane, to serve as a shop window and main distribution outlet for Elliot’s work.

Elliot exhibited widely over the years and completed in excess of 10 000 oil and watercolour paintings (mainly land- and seascapes), which are included in public, corporate and private collections, including those of the SABC, Sasol, Distell, Bertrams, SAB, Sun International, Hoskins, and Malbak. He undertook many commissioned works, including major commissions for the Sun International Casino at Grand West in Cape Town in 2001 (nine paintings), and the Garden Route Casino in Mossel Bay in 2002 (six paintings).
