BIOGRAPHY

Edward Arthur Roworth was a British-born South African artist.

He came to South Africa in 1902 with the British forces during the Anglo-Boer War. At the end of the war, Roworth decided to stay in South Africa, settling in the Cape (now Western Cape Province), where the scenery, notably the old farmhouses of Cape Town, would serve as inspiration for his paintings.

He also loved painting the landscapes of Natal (now KwaZulu-Natal).

Equally, he was revered for his portraits and was one of the first few people to paint frescoes in South Africa.

In 1908, Roworth was elected president of the South African Society of Artists.
