BIOGRAPHY
Julia Teale completed her Higher Diploma in Fine Art at what was then Technikon Natal, her MFA at the University of Cape Town and her PhD at the University of Auckland in Australia.
She is a painter, whose work has been included in the Cape Town Triennial (1985), Moving in Time and Space: Shifts between abstraction and representation in post-war South African art (2003) and Making Waves: A selection of work from the SABC Art Collection (2007), among other exhibitions.
She has extensive experience teaching at formal tertiary institutions and establishing independent creative spaces, such as Spencer Street Studio in Salt River, Cape Town, which later evolved into Insitu, a teaching studio run by long-time collaborator and artist, Douglas Gimberg.
Since returning to Cape Town from Australia, Teale has been offering workshops, one-to-one consultations, and group discussions to cultivate and expand creative pathways for those who seek to enrich their visual arts practice.
