Marcus NEUSTETTER (b. 1976)
BIOGRAPHY
Born in Johannesburg, Marcus Neustetter earned his Masters Degree in Fine Arts in 2001 from the University of the Witwatersrand. As an artist and cultural activist, Neustetter has produced projects in the gallery, public and virtual domains.
A consistent focus in his art practice has been on the intersections of art, science and technology, ranging from drawing, sculpture, installation, performance, video and multimedia, to site-specific and socially engaged interventions.
As the co-director of the contemporary art production collaboration The Trinity Session, he was involved in numerous innovative and socially engaged public art projects from 2000 onwards.
Currently based in Vienna, Austria, he has exhibited extensively in Europe, Africa and North America.
Accolades have included winner of the World Technology Award for the Arts 2015 (New York City), Artist in Research Fellowship for the Smithsonian National Museums of African Art and Air and Space (Washington DC), a commissioned public performance for the UNESCO International year of Light (Merida, Mexico) and a commission as The Trinity Session by the Ars Electronica Festival in response to the current refugee challenges in Europe with their project Renaming the City (Linz).
