BIOGRAPHY

Born in Belgium, Jan Vermeiren studied art at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp, where he attained a degree in Graphic Art in 1974.

Vermeiren moved to South Africa in the late 1970s.

From 1981 to 1987, he was a lecturer at the Technical College for Advanced Education in Cape Town, where he joined an artist group which included Alfred Krentz, Marthinus la Grange, Erik Laubscher, Claude Bouscharain and Stanley Pinker.

Vermeiren’s works are a marriage of the influences of his European roots and the African continent on which he has spent a large part of his life and career. The artist has participated in numerous group and solo shows since 1969 in South Africa, Namibia, the United States and Europe.
