BIOGRAPHY

Born in Andújar, Spain, Pepe José Abela studied drawing and pottery in Madrid.

He has worked in Zimbabwe, Namibia, South Africa, Nigeria, northern Congo, Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. He participated in the First Johannesburg Biennale with work produced at the Artist Proof Studio. 

He has also collaborated with artists in Belgium, Ecuador, Scotland and the United States, experimenting with monotype and cyanotype printing and photolithography using aluminium foil and cooldrink cans. 

His work is represented the collections of Boston Library and Rutgers University in the United States, Ottawa University in Canada and the University of Santiago de Chile in Chile.

He currently lives and works in Malaga, Spain.
