BIOGRAPHY

Born in Polokwane, Limpopo, painter, sculptor and enamellist John William Roome holds an MA degree in Fine Art from Rhodes University (1975). 

Roome is also an art educator, visual researcher in printmaking, drawing, painting. He served as a lecturer in Painting and the History of Art in the Fine Art departments at Rhodes University and at Natal Technikon (now Durban University of Technology), where he set up a papermaking unit. 

He has participated in numerous group exhibitions in South Africa and Europe and has had solo exhibitions in Durban, Johannesburg and Paris. He is represented in public and private collections in South Africa and abroad. Roome’s work is included in the Images of Human Rights Portfolio and the Constitutional Court Art Collection.
